Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between therapy for personal growth and therapy for psychological problems?

Therapy for personal growth is a strength-based approach focusing on goals for self-improvement, skills acquisition, and greater satisfaction in one's life. In other words, there may be some areas of your life in which you feel content, yet there  may  be others that you would like to enrich. Some examples of growth areas may be improving one's confidence interpersonally and/or specifically to particular situations. Some situations may be relevant to increasing one's effectiveness at work and/or performance in sports or the arts. Enhancing self-esteem, career planning, working on plans to change career or educational pursuits, or boosting public speaking skills are some examples of goals for personal growth. Traditional psychotherapy tends to focus on areas of significant emotional, cognitive, and/or behavioral distress that negatively impacts a person's desired level of functioning. It also typically involves a clinical diagnosis.

Does Touchstone accept health insurance?

Although Touchstone does not directly accept health insurance for payment of services, we are more than happy to provide you with an invoice which you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement of services. Health insurance typically only covers services in which a person receives a mental health diagnosis. Health insurance also limits the kinds and types of services that can be rendered. If you have a mental health diagnosis or are in need of psychotherapy services for a mental health concern, please contact Associates in Clinical Therapy at 818-222-9300, ext 0.

Does Touchstone provide services to all age groups?

Yes! We provide a variety of opportunities for involvement of all ages depending on the particular service the individual is seeking. For instance, some social skills groups may be targeted for particular ages and career planning tends to be for adolescence through adulthood, not grade school aged children.
